Meet the Procedural Advisors

Students may be advised throughout the conduct process by a procedural adviser (PA). Persons who may serve as procedural advisors are limited to full-time students, faculty, and staff of Syracuse University (for exceptions, see May I have an attorney as my Procedural Advisor?). Assignment of a procedural advisor is based on availability and is not guaranteed.

It is strongly recommended that students initiate their request for a Procedural Advisor as soon as possible to allow enough time to obtain a PA and prepare for their upcoming meeting with OSRR. If possible, requests for a Procedural Advisor should be made at least 72 hours prior to an informal meeting/hearing. It is the student's responsibility to contact the PA to set up a time to meet and discuss their upcoming informal resolution meeting or formal hearing.

A list of trained procedural advisors endorsed by the Dean of Students Office (DOS) and the Office of Students Rights & Responsibilities (OSRR) can be found below. These individuals have undergone additional training in the student conduct process. Students are encouraged to request their case file from OSRR prior to their meeting with their chosen PA. Students can request their case file by visiting OSRR at 804 University Avenue, Suite 106, and completing record release form.

It is important to note: The PA is available to advise on the conduct process, but it is the student's responsibility to prepare their own case. A PA is not permitted to speak on behalf of the students, but can advise in a non-disruptive manner.

For additional information, please review the following documents:

Additional questions or concerns on procedural advisors should be directed to the Dean of Students Office at 315.443.4357 or via email at dos@syr.edu.

The reason as to why I applied to become a PA is mainly because of my interest in the criminal justice system. While in this role we mainly focus on the violation of school policies, I still consider it to be a microcosm of the greater system that regulates our actions and promotes civility by holding us accountable to rule of law. It is imperative that we are aware the existence of a rules/policies in every institution, big or small. The Rules of Conduct, though tailored specifically to what is expected of us as members of the Syracuse community, enforce a certain set of rules and values that at the end of our four years we will hopefully carry into and practice in the real world.
